In a counter-terrorism operation in the Kokernag area of Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag, the Indian Army engaged in a fierce encounter with terrorists. However, during the operation, one Army soldier went missing. The encounter, which erupted on September 13, claimed the lives of two army officers and a deputy superintendent of police (DSP).
The brave officers who laid down their lives in the line of duty included Major Aashish Dhonchak, Colonel Manpreet Singh, and DSP Humayun Bhat. Major Dhonchak's mortal remains were brought to his residence in Panipat, Haryana, on September 15, where a large gathering of locals and villagers paid their respects to the officer.
The last rites of DSP Humayun Bhat were conducted in Budgam on September 13. His father had also served in the Jammu and Kashmir Police. During the funeral, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of these valiant officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the fight against terrorism.
